A Community-Driven Alliance for Baltimore's Youth

East-WestLAB unites East and West Baltimore neighbors, mentors, churches, recreation centers, DSS, schools, and employers around one mission: expanding leadership, wellness, and opportunity for young people ages 11–24.

From East to West, Building One Connected Baltimore

The East-West Youth Leadership Alliance of Baltimore (East-WestLAB) was built on a simple conviction: young people flourish when their community is organized around them — not the other way around. Across East and West Baltimore, families, mentors, and grassroots leaders saw the same gaps: too few safe spaces, too little mentorship, and too many youth aging out of opportunity without a bridge to adulthood.

East-WestLAB was formed to close that gap by uniting neighborhood strengths — churches, recreation centers, the Department of Social Services (DSS), schools, employers, and community associations — into a single, coordinated alliance. Rather than importing outside solutions, we design programming with the people who live, worship, and work in these neighborhoods.

Today, the alliance delivers holistic development for youth ages 11–24 through eight connected pillars: sports, fitness, arts, STEAM, enrichment, job skills, mentorship, and counseling — each grounded in community feedback and accountable to the stakeholders who make it possible.

Our model bridges neighborhoods, institutions, and generations so youth never fall through the cracks between them.

What We Do, and the Baltimore We're
Building

Community-Centered Leadership

To expand opportunity, leadership, and wellness for Baltimore youth ages 11–24 by uniting community institutions around a holistic, community-driven development model — one that meets young people where they are with sports, arts, STEAM, career readiness, mentorship, and counseling.

Our Vision

A Baltimore where every young person — regardless of neighborhood, background, or circumstance — has access to consistent mentors, safe spaces, real skills, and a clear bridge to a thriving future. We envision an alliance so deeply rooted in community that youth become the leaders who sustain it.

Designed for Youth Ages 11–24, With
Intentional Pathways for All

East-WestLAB serves young people across East and West Baltimore at every stage — from middle-school adolescents building peer networks to young adults stepping into the workforce — with compassionate re-entry support for youth who need a fresh start.

Adolescents (Ages 11–17)

Positive peer networks, after-school sports, creative arts, STEAM exposure, tutoring, and emotional wellness during critical developmental years.

Young Adults (Ages 18–24)

Career readiness, interview coaching, paid internships, financial literacy, and mentorship for young adults stepping into workforce independence.

Youth Seeking Fresh Starts

Compassionate, stigma-free enrollment for justice-involved youth and those navigating diversion or re-entry, coordinated with DSS and community partners.

Four Commitments That Shape Everything
We Do

Dignity-First

Every young person is met with respect, cultural humility, and a stigma-free welcome — regardless of background or circumstance.

Community-Led Design

Programs are shaped by the people who live, worship, and work in East and West Baltimore — not imposed from outside.

Whole-Person Growth

Athletics, creativity, academics, career readiness, and emotional wellness are treated as one connected ecosystem.

Equity & Access

We intentionally reach youth who have the least access to quality programming, safe spaces, and mentorship.

Evidence & Accountability

Curricula are grounded in proven youth-development practice, with transparent reporting to partners and funders.

Hope & Possibility

We center opportunity, aspiration, and joy — helping youth see themselves as leaders, builders, and change-makers.
